The Seven Towers Resident's Group recently gave a private showing of the new documentary film ‘Papering Over The Cracks’ to all those who took part in making it. It is a powerful story about the campaigns to realise the rights of the residents and the resistance to change they face from government and public bodies.
The documentary tells the stories of various residents’ campaigns to hold the housing executive and the department for social development to account on everyday issues like the right to a warm and comfortable home, the right to a safe environment for families, the right to security and dignity and the right to participate in the decisions that affect their lives.
Angie McManus, who appears in the documentary, thanked all those involved:
“The DVD is a credit to all those who took part, who told their story and who campaign tirelessly for better conditions in the Towers. It would not have been possible without the everyday support of ordinary people who help with our meetings, surveys, petitions, protests, and most importantly in pushing the message that we deserve better. It also shows that when we work together with our neighbours we are a force for progress in our community that cannot be ignored.”
The DVD will now form another element of the ongoing campaigning of the Seven Towers Resident's Group and a free copy will be distributed soon to every resident of the tower blocks. Copies are also available from the PPR Offices, email info@pprproject.org or phone 02890 313315
